Arashi and Bomaki Dyed Scarves and Ties
Arashi, meaning storm, is a technique in pole wrapped shibori. The cloth is wrapped using a fine thread, pleated tightly, and then dyed on the pole. I think of these pleated textiles as soft jewelry.
Bomaki, meaning pole wrapped, is a technique in shibori. The china silk is wrapped using a fine thread, puckered tightly and then dyed on the pole. The resulting exotic textile is very delicate and springy.
